Thoughts on art, life, culture, politics, and the places those things intersect.

The stock market isn’t real, the pandemic wall is, and air ambulance companies aren’t the angels they want to be seen as.

1. Further proof that money is a shared illusion
Irony-poisoned Redditors are organizing to pump up cheap stocks. Among their targets are GameStop and Blackberry.
The GameStop Fiasco Proves We’re in a ‘Meme Stock’ Bubble | by James Surowiecki | Jan, 2021 | Marker
They started on AMC today
Peter Kafka on Twitter: "After pumping GameStop, Redditors are trying to do the same with AMC Entertainment, which is up > 200% this am.… "
What do you think will happen first: GameStop and AMC become the first in a long chain of stock pumps that shake confidence in the market, leading to a crash, or the SEC starts making calls?
What they’re doing is probably as legal as what the short sellers do. Doesn’t mean the rich and powerful won’t do something about it.
A lot of them try to portray this as “the commoners” going against the rich. They have money to do something like this. They are not commoners. In the same class, yes, but none of them will use the money they get for good because they think they’re in a class with the rich.
2. The pandemic wall
I think I started to hit this around September of 2020.
Tanzina Vega on Twitter: "Lots of people - including me - are hitting what I’m calling the pandemic wall this week. The burnout from working non stop, no break from news, childcare and isolation is hard."
3. Also? Air ambulances aren't what you think
I’m shocked. This is my shocked face. (there isn’t one because I’m not shocked)
